Handsworth Medical Practice

Coronavirus Update

Covid-19 Vaccine

We are in the process of arranging and providing Covid-19 vaccinations for our patients. You will hear from us to arrange your appointment date and time. Please do not call the Surgery to book your appointment, we will be in touch when it is your turn for the vaccine.

National Booking System

If you receive a letter from the National Booking System regarding a vaccination appointment for one of the large scale centres, please do not phone the Practice to arrange the appointment, please phone the telephone number on the letter.

Please note that if you do not wish to have an appointment at one of the centres, you may wait and have an appointment at the Practice, and we will be in contact with you in due course to arrange an appointment.

Covid-19 - Our Practice Information

Due to the Coronavirus outbreak we will only be taking appointments over the telephone until further notice. Please do not attend the Practice unless you have been asked to do so.

Please keep your visits to the Practice to a minimum, for booked appointments. If you need to collect a prescription, contact us to arrange delivery to a pharmacy of your choice

We are doing everything we can to protect patients and staff during the Covid-19 pandemic. We ask that you wear some form of face covering when visiting the Practice. This can be a face mask, or something as simple as a scarf or bandana that ties behind your face. However, face coverings should not be used for children under the age of 11 years or those who may find it difficult to manage them correctly - for example, those with respiratory disease.

When attending the Practice for any appointment, your temperature will be taken and you will be asked to wait outside until the clinician collects you for your appointment. Please arrive at the Practice as close as possible to your appointment time.

Thank you

If you have symptoms of Coronavirus infection (COVID-19), stay at home and do not leave your house for at least 10 days from when your symptoms started. You do not need to call NHS 111 to go into self-isolation. You should arrange to have a Covid-19 test to check if you have the virus. If your symptoms worsen during home isolation or are no better after 10 days contact NHS 111 online, or if you do not have internet access, phone NHS 111. For a medical emergency call 999.

The main symptoms of coronavirus are:

  • a cough
  • a high temperature
  • shortness of breath
  • loss or change to your sense of smell or taste

The symptoms are similar to other illnesses that are much more common, such as cold and flu.

How to avoid catching or spreading the coronavirus:

  • wash your hands with soap and water often - do this for at least 20 seconds
  • always wash your hands when you get home or into work
  • use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available
  • cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
  • put used tissues in the bin straight away and wash your hands afterwards
  • avoid close contact with people who are unwell
  • avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean
