Handsworth Medical Practice
Due to the Coronavirus outbreak we will only be taking appointments over the telephone until further notice. Please do not attend the Practice unless you have been asked to.
For the duration of the Coronavirus outbreak we have closed our branch site (on Fitzalan Road) to patients. Our staff are still taking patient phone calls at the branch site.
All appointments and any collection of prescriptions will be done at our main site (on Handsworth Road)
At this time we will be taking prescription requests over the telephone for all patients.
If you have symptoms of Coronavirus infection (COVID-19), stay at home and do not leave your house for 7 days from when your symptoms started. You do not need to call NHS 111 to go into self-isolation. If your symptoms worsen during home isolation or are no better after 7 days contact NHS 111 online, or if you do not have internet access, phone NHS 111. For a medical emergency call 999.
The symptoms of coronavirus are:
- a cough
- a high temperature
- shortness of breath
The symptoms are similar to other illnesses that are much more common, such as cold and flu.
How to avoid catching or spreading the coronavirus:
- wash your hands with soap and water often - do this for at least 20 seconds
- always wash your hands when you get home or into work
- use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available
- cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
- put used tissues in the bin straight away and wash your hands afterwards
- try to avoid close contact with people who are unwell
- avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean
Please keep your visits to the Practice to a minimum, for booked appointments. If you need to collect a prescription, contact us to arrange delivery to a pharmacy of your choice

Handsworth Medical Practice in Sheffield serves the S13 district, which includes Handsworth, Woodhouse, Richmond, Stradbroke and a section of Darnall that is Sheffield S9.
Please be aware that to be registered with the Practice you will need to be in our Practice boundary area within the locations listed above.
Our team includes 6 Doctors, a Practice Manager, an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, 3 Nurses, 3 Healthcare Assistants and our Reception and Administrative staff. We are a Training Practice where qualified junior doctors can finish their Training, these are known as GP Registrars.
We offer a full general practice service and run numerous clinics for the management of chronic diseases such as asthma and diabetes, as well as offering a wide variety of other medical services including antenatal and postnatal care, minor surgery, childhood vaccinations and well-person check-ups.
